Smart grid offerings are gaining momentum

UK operator Cable&Wireless Worldwide has partnered with smart grid specialist Silver Spring Networks to collaborate on the delivery of smart grid and smart metering facilities in the UK.

The collaboration will take advantage of Silver Spring’s IPv6-based network infrastructure, software, and services, along with C&W’s next-generation network to deliver managed services and managed data centre services to utility companies.

Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) will be able to embed intelligence deep into the electricity distribution network that will provide visibility and control to manage the associated challenges of power quality management and load balancing.

“As the UK Government has made clear, smart grids and smart meters will be instrumental in achieving energy policy objectives. These programmes will affect every energy consumer: it’s important to get this right the first time,” said Eric Dresselhuys, EVP of Silver Spring.
