Accelerated FTTR Evolution Enables All-Optical Smart Home Development for Macau

On October 9, 2024, during the World Broadband Forum (BBWF) held in Paris, France, Mr. Hudson Lou, the Director of Network Services and Development of CTM (Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau) presented the "Accelerated FTTR Development Enabling All-Optical Smart Home" speech at the All-Optical Access Innovation Forum. He stated that CTM is committed to realizing three streams of innovation about home broadband service, namely: “Beyond 1Gbps Wi-Fi coverage powered by Huawei FTTR”, “Performance Acceleration against e-Sport enabled by Huawei eAI” and “Wi-Fi Butler Service supported by Huawei NCE” will bring excellent experience to Macau CTM’s users. To embrace the upcoming F5.5G-10Gbps era, CTM will plan for FTTR-X such as Smart Mobile Home, Smart IoT and Cloud services at the application level, in addition to Wi-Fi 7 FTTR technology in home networks and 50G PON in access networks to inject full fuel in the Digital Macau 3.0 development.
CTM is a leading integrated network service provider in Macau. It has been promoting the development of Digital Macau 3.0 from five aspects: artificial intelligence, big data, cloud, data center and e- Commerce. CTM started fiber construction in the 1980s and achieved 100% fiber to the home coverage in 2015. In 2020, CTM introduced F5G technology and released 10GE packages. In 2023, CTM launched the first FTTR package and customer 100% fiberization. In 2024, to further improve user experience, CTM deployed the dedicated application intelligent acceleration feature to FTTR services to enhance customer experience and demonstrated 50G PON in one of key innovative technology exhibition of Macau in April. Currently, CTM focuses on three major innovations to lead the Smart Home experience:
Beyond 1Gbps Wi-Fi coverage powered by Huawei FTTR: Fiber 360° service enhances the stability and performance of Wi-Fi coverage, Wi-Fi roaming and speed, “Gbps” experience everywhere inside the house. And professional cabling service with transparent optical fiber attracted by customer without affecting their beautiful interior decoration.
Performance Acceleration against e-Sport enabled by Huawei eAI solution: With eAI feature, this can prioritize the identified Apps with AI capability in priority tunnel of Wi-Fi RF data channels. Recently, CTM has launched new Game plan service, named “GameOnTheGo”, aiming to assure service performance. It has been observed significant game latency improvement by 84% with eAI feature enabled FTTR routers compared with normal routers.
Wi-Fi Butler Service supported by Huawei NCE: All Wi-Fi routers will be offered by CTM, Monitor the quality and offer support service in 24 hours a day, self-care App for self-management and SSID configuration, fault router replaced without additional charge, no additional installation and maintenance charge, one-stop service to provide FBB and Wi-Fi services.Facing the upcoming F5.5G 10GE intelligent era, CTM is focusing on deploying MobileHome and CloudNAS service, Cloud PC at the application level, in addition to Wi-Fi 7 FTTR technology in home networks and 50G PON in access networks to inject full fuel in the Digital Macau 3.0 development.
