The Telecoms.com Podcast: Opportunity at the Edge

Edge computing is a hot topic: a buzzy area at the confluence of numerous other buzzy areas in technology, including cloud, 5G and IoT. And crucially, it’s one that enterprise decision makers are taking very seriously indeed.

That’s why WWT partnered with Telecoms.com to record a three-part podcast series exploring enterprise Edge computing for telecoms service providers.

In the first of these podcasts, Telecoms.com editor Scott Bicheno is joined by WWT’s EMEA Chief Technologist for Service Providers Daniel Valle and Dell Technologies EMEA GTM Manager Telco/5G Eric van Vliet. They discuss enterprise attitudes to Edge and the $17bn revenue opportunity it represents, based on findings from new research conducted with Analysys Mason. They also delve into why telcos infrastructure and experience make them so well positioned to capitalise on the Edge ecosystem.

After touching on other hot topics such as OpenRAN, they conclude that the Edge opportunity is great, but so is the complexity of the space. That complexity, and the fact that telcos are not currently front-of mind for enterprise Edge deployments, make forging the right partnerships essential for any telco eager to grab a slice of the Edge pie.
