Mobile internet big in Finland

A survey of mobile phone users in Finland has discovered that 25 per cent of respondents use their handset to access the internet.

The Mobile Media Tracking survey, conducted by research firm Satama was commissioned by the Finnish Direct Marketing Association. Over 1,500 Finns aged between 15 and 64 took part in the survey.

According to the report, use of MMS messaging grew from 29 per cent of users in 2005 to 41 per cent of users in 2006. the number of users who used their phone to interact with TV programmes had also risen from 26 per cent to 31 per cent.

In the 25 to 35 year old age group, 61 per cent of respondents had received marketing communications to their mobile and 38 per cent had used their mobile to react to marketing in other media.

Almost half of this age group had used their mobile phone to access the internet.
