PRESS RELEASE

Dublin – February 23, 2015 – Afilias and the GSMA today announced the launch of Device Map, a joint initiative that enables mobile network operators to gain a greater understanding of mobile and connected devices in use on their networks. By understanding the characteristics of devices, service providers can offer enhanced analytics and insights to support decision-making on issues ranging from real-time data-driven marketing campaigns, to network optimisation, device management and customer support.

Device Map contains constantly updated and consistent device information on thousands of GSM-enabled devices indexed by TAC (Type Allocation Code) to provide an authoritative source of device data for the telecoms industry. There has been strong interest from the telecoms industry with a number of wireless technology companies set to sign up for the service.

According to Eileen O’Sullivan, COO of Afilias Technologies Limited, “Device Map enables a range of applications for companies operating in the telecoms space. The data gives service providers the ability to analyze devices, promote device appropriate services and achieve a detailed view of devices active on their networks.”
GSMA, who represent the interests of mobile operators, issues TACs to device manufacturers of GSM devices to identify make and model. Afilias enriches this basic dataset with over 100 properties per device including hardware and software information such as operating system, LTE support, multimedia capabilities, screen size, etc. Device Map is available both via Afilias’ DeviceAtlas solution and through GSMA’s Managed Services offerings.
