Ericsson, EE say LTE broadcast big in converging market

Infrastructure vendor Ericsson has said now that convergence is finally taking off, it is ready to bridge the gap between the broadcast and telecoms industries. Talking at a an event in London, the Swedish firm’s Head of Broadcast and Media Services Thorsten Sauer said the firm predicts by 2020 50% of all content viewed will be on mobile devices and on-demand.

AT&T trials live LTE broadcast for mass content delivery

American multiplay operator AT&T has confirmed it has undertaken a trial of LTE broadcast technology in Texas, USA. The trial focussed on delivering live digital content in stadia to attendees of an American football match, which took place earlier this week.

Vodafone Germany in Europe’s first LTE Broadcast trial

Vodafone Germany has carried out the first live trial of LTE Broadcast in Europe, Ericsson announced on Tuesday. The trial, which also involved Qualcomm and Samsung, took place at the stadium of German football team Borussia Mönchengladbach during a match played on Saturday.

Ericsson and Telstra in LTE Broadcast trial

Australia’s leading telecoms operator Telstra has signed an extension of its partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson that will see the two collaborate on the expansion of Telstra’s LTE network. In a briefing at Mobile World Congress on Monday the firms’ CEOs, David Thodey and Hans Vestberg signed a three-year expansion contract that Thodey described as “another multi-billion dollar deal”.
