Alcatel-Lucent has won a five-year managed services agreement with Dutch telco KPN to transform the latter’s fixed network in the Netherlands, including migrating its existing voice and transport networks to new technology.

Under the terms of the deal, Alcatel-Lucent will take over the day-to-day network operations of KPN, as well as plan, design and implement an end-to-end solution to provide KPN’s network with increased capacity, upgraded equipment, and enhanced customer service.

In terms of specifics, the Paris-based vendor will migrate KPN’s core network to Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology, move KPN’s Voice over IP (VoIP) service to its own IMS platform, and provide WLAN and security gateway for wifi networks, as well as Professional Services.

Alcatel-Lucent will also help KPN transform its existing multi-vendor voice and core networks, enabling its customers to access and share multimedia content from wherever they are, using the device of their choice.

Alcatel-Lucent recently revealed that it has appointed ex-Vodafone exec Michel Combes as its new CEO, following the resignation of Ben Verwaayen last month.
